Home Again
You have left me breathless
Like whale song, low, vibrant,
You resonate around me,
Sounding out the depths.
Strident, I press on, always
Splashing, flailing, sloshing about,
Toward some distant shore
As if it must be swiftly reached.
I should know by now, alack,
No sun-bleached beach can match
This liquid calm, this clinging balm,
This home, wherein I now lie.
Eyes still closed, I breathe out,
Relishing in the flow of our tide.
As the swell subsides, I'm sure
There's nowhere else I'd rather be.

Lovely -- particularly the first stanza, a poem in itself. Well done!
ReplyDeleteLove these lines:
ReplyDelete'No sun-bleached beach can match
This liquid calm, this clinging balm,'
I too think the first saaatnza is a poem on its own....

ReplyDeleteNowhere I'd rather be either :)
ReplyDeleteHey... you blog. =D I saw you on the list at the Willow Manor Ball and didn't know if you were gay. (The state of Carolina never entered my brain.) I can be really dense sometimes. And is Dana the Bug of A Bug's Eye View? I always liked her so much and wondered who she was really. Awesome!! =D I am laughing so much right now. My apologies dear friend. (swear words in my brain)
ReplyDeleteI love your poem. And I love the prompt. Those statues under the water are the very best protest against the policies of the PM of Canada. I would never vote for him... just to be clear.
Like Dana's poem, and by your title I am feeling a back to the womb comfort when I read through your lines. Serenely beautiful. Thank you for sharing this with me... the dodo brain.(no insult to you or extinct birds intended). I added your blog site to my list. The Bug is already on my list. I am livingintheeasternwoodlands@blogspot.com

ReplyDeleteAs if it must be swiftly reached.
Sounds like home ended up being just fine after all. :)
Ah! WIthin the lines of your third stanza lies the key to contentment itself, realization of the beauty of the present. Marvelous piece! I thoroughly enjoyed your content and imagery. Thanks for this!
ReplyDeleteI realy liked the natural flow of this poem, no strain...clean.
ReplyDeleteThis is an excellent Magpie.
ReplyDeleteThis is really beautiful, Dr. L...
ReplyDeleteReally nice. I love the "breathless as whale song..."
ReplyDelete=)
Superbly sung!
ReplyDeleteIt is a wonderful descriptive work and I loved it! My favorite begins with "no un-bleached beach...," ending with "this home..." Very powerful.
ReplyDeleteI'm joining the chorus: the first stanza is exceptional. Breathtaking. The rest is pretty damned good!
