I saw this moon last night, too. Fascinated by the phenomenon of how you can see that shadowy area just faintly. An astronomer told me this is because earth-light gets reflected back onto the moon and faintly illuminates the dark portion.
My friend, Tom, had emailed me about the moon but said he didn't have a long enough lens to get a good picture. Neither did I, though I tried. I just sent him a link to your blog because I knew from your past moon shots that you wouldn't let us down. Good work, Mike.
