Hawk #1
Note how the light shines through the feathers!
Red-shouldered hawks have the distinctive light "crescent" near their wing-tips
Wow!
Hawk #2
Awesome!
Classic Buteo hawks, soaring, circling
Using their tails for stability while they scan for prey
Thick bodies with broad, strong wings.
Oh...here comes one making a straight-line pass overhead!
Flaps to gain altitude...Glorious!
Thanks for the show!
A magical late afternoon out back.
Wow! Those are some amazing pictures!

Great pictures, Dr. M.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! We will soon have "Hawk Watch" as the large birds fly over the gorges near the escarpment. What a lovely sight!
ReplyDeleteReturning from vacation in France, I found that Autumn had fallen here in MInnesota, too. Kind of bittersweet, given the very late spring and short summer, but fall remains my very favorite time of year.
