Cheshire Cat Moon

Taken 2/12/13...sometimes the shaky hands make for the most interesting shots :-)

I love these - and that stripedy one best of all :)

I saw this moon last night, too. Fascinated by the phenomenon of how you can see that shadowy area just faintly. An astronomer told me this is because earth-light gets reflected back onto the moon and faintly illuminates the dark portion.

My friend, Tom, had emailed me about the moon but said he didn't have a long enough lens to get a good picture. Neither did I, though I tried. I just sent him a link to your blog because I knew from your past moon shots that you wouldn't let us down. Good work, Mike.

Mike-
Thanks for posting great shots of the Cheshire Moon.
I'm the friend Bruce noted and appreciate your photos.
It's nice to see that amazing scene again.
