One day versus more than 400 years: Without Sanctuary

If you follow this link, you will see the epitome of human depravity, committed by Americans against Americans and celebrated as spectacle. I share it because we all too easily forget in a post 9/11 world just how abusive we have been and, arguably, continue to be to non-Caucasian Americans. I grow weary with all the mock patriotism, all the genuflecting to icons of America that, really, do not deserve to be worshiped. Dana's family and my family have given much blood to the causes of this nation, but neither of us flinch from acknowledging our transgressions. So if you don't have the stomach for viewing these images, fine, but don't lecture me about how "black" people need to respect the flag and the anthem. They lived for generations without sanctuary in this country. IMHO, you might want to cut a brother or sister some slack? Food for thought:

Well said. Painful reminders but necessary even now. Or perhaps especially now.

Thank goodness for the "mute" button. I was preparing to watch football and the announcers couldn't stop talking about how very "patriotic" they feel about the flag. I'm done screaming at the TV. I'll just keep it muted. Isn't part of freedom the right to stand or not stand, sing or not sing, pledge or not pledge, salute or not salute?

Yes, well said, DOCTOR Michael.

It's an ugly history. People have been awful to each other more often than not throughout history.

I'm glad I am here and now, despite the horrible things that continue to happen.
