Birdwatching in Hickory

In the midst of a quick trip to see family, it is always fun to spend some time bird watching and listening at my father-in-law's house.

The many cardinals are usually the show stoppers

But there are Carolina Wrens

Increasingly golden goldfinches

 House finches

 Carolina Chickadees!

And sweet song sparrows

 Singing!

And grazing
A robin makes an appearance...I was hoping for a towhee
And there are grackles, boat-tailed and otherwise

 A yellow-bellied sapsucker!
A red-bellied woodpecker, hitting the seed!
And this splendid little vocalist, the yellow-rumped warbler!

It is good to be down home for a few days, where the weather is warm and friends and family are welcoming.

I don't know what's better - the BBQ, or watching you stop birds with your camera :-)

Wonderful photographs of our lovely NC birds. I can't decide which is my favorite.

A couple of finches began building a nest over our entryway this morning. But dagnabit, why can't we have cardinals!
