Swallowtail Saturday

The Bug was out and about this morning (a birthday party for twins that I'm sure you will hear all about), so I was left to make do with only the Canon PowerShot A710 IS.  It is a fine camera that has captured so many lovely moments in our lives over the last half dozen years, but close-ups of butterflies is not its forte.  Still, this lovely swallowtail was quite accommodating, practically posing for me!

What a stunner! I'm so jealous of your butterflies. What few butterflies I see, definitely do NOT pose.

Ooh - I especially love the pics of the butterfly on the geranium - gorgeous! I don't think I did a great job at the bday party - I should have left you the better camera!

Not bad for an 'only' camera.

I know, right? I am a blessed man, and most of the time I know it. This particular butterfly did give me very opportunity to photograph her, which makes up for all the ones that just flit right on by without even pausing! I've seen several Monarch-looking ones that did not even slow down over my yard. Hmmmph! As for the Canon, it is quite a good "only" camera! We feel very fortunate, if also in debt, to have our awesome toys.

Butterflies are like that sometimes, almost 'hamming it up' for the camera. Othertimes they're frustratingly flighty and won't sit still much - just long enough for you to ALMOST get them in focus. Nice shots!

Dear C.L.,
Having a camera has made all the difference to me in Seeing. Not that I didn't see before, but because I could give things importance, or keep them active somehow in my mind.

I am envious of your butterflies. I suspect patience is one of your gifts as well as a Canon PowerShot A710 IS.
