Did I mention we were going to the Outer Banks?
(we're here)
I'm a bit fond of pelicans, it would seem...
The Precocious Pelican
By Lemuel Crouse
As I sat looking out on a slate-gray sea,
A precocious pelican swooped from the sky
And lazily glided in front of me
Until a fine fish caught his eye.
At once he dove in headlong manner,
Splashing down noisily amongst the waves.
Then floating proudly, a wind-tossed banner,
A nod of the head to me he gave.
With tipping beak and gulping throat,
He slickly swallowed his salty snack.
Then, flapping his wings, the water he smote,
And my pelican flew off without looking back.
To be a bird like he I sometimes wish,
To have a home upon some marshy shore,
With naught to do but fly and swim and fish,
And be a haunted human, nevermore.
There were, of course, ubiquitous laughing gulls and other gulls about this damp day
I loved watching these swallows!
I saw this character walking below our balcony
And the grackle on the light
And a couple of birds for S of lowandslow
We did manage to get out on the beach...only to get drenched by a sudden downpour, lol
Still, it was a glorious first morning here!

I guess we're both "bird lovers" in our own way. We can both live vicariously through our preferred bird of flight. ;)
Hope y'all have a wonderful vacation.

Indeed, my friend! I'll post pics when we go over to the Wright Monument. It's only a mile or so away, as the crow flies.
I love your BIFs! Don't the pelicans look like boats flying through the air? I wish I could get a decent picture of a bird in flight. Need to practice more.
Enjoy your vacation!
I don't talk about it on the blog very much, PP, but I am a very good shot. It was the world in which I was raised. I have learned to translate that to the camera, as I have no desire to kill these birdies. I keep both eyes open as much as possible, tracking the bird with my naked eye and trying to find it in the zoom with my other eye. When the two come together and the camera cooperates, I get good BIF shots. Not saying it is easy, but that's what I do. The added bonus is getting drunk trying to track swallows, lol!
A rainy day at the beach is still a wonderful day at the beach. Love the photographs.
Have never been to the Outer Banks... will need to add that to my list of places I need to go. Have a wonderful time my friend. xo
The birds in your pictures look so delighted to have the outer banks sea breezes and surf to play in all day. They are happy birds indeed. There is nothing in camera technology manuals that explain how to capture that joy. You managed. It is very evident in your pictures. Thank you for sharing these, CL.
