Autumn Comes to Ohio

Our "garden" is beginning to fade
 Li'l Sunny, whithering
 Big Sunny, gone to seed
 Still harvesting tomatoes
But they are struggling to ripen on the vine
Beautiful Zinnias still bloom in Xenia
 And Marigolds
And the last of our Petunias
But the Harvest Moon is swelling
Hawks are very active...this is prime hunting season
The Junkyard deer are taking defensive measures, lol!
 Food is plentiful
The young are strong and frisky!
 The herd is thriving
Mom is a little concerned about me
There is a fawn...late season birth, still spotted
But the herd mother and the big buck are on patrol, ever vigilant.
Antlers polished, the big guy is no doubt anticipating the rut
Late summer bloomers are brightening the landscape
Sunflowers still resplendent
And in Yellow Springs
The annual Sunflower celebration has begun!
The local orchard will be pressing cider and selling apples, pumpkins and more
So Hoist the Colors!
Autumn is here!

Red-shouldered Hawks Overhead!

 Hawk #1
Note how the light shines through the feathers!
Red-shouldered hawks have the distinctive light "crescent" near their wing-tips
Wow!

 Hawk #2

 Awesome!

 Classic Buteo hawks, soaring, circling
Using their tails for stability while they scan for prey
Thick bodies with broad, strong wings.

Oh...here comes one making a straight-line pass overhead!
 Flaps to gain altitude...Glorious!
Thanks for the show!

A magical late afternoon out back.
