Hummers are tanking up; Super Harvest Moon

It is the season when the Ruby-throated Hummingbirds begin to head south. That means very intense activities at feeders and around blooming things. The little male that has guarded Mr. Ken's feeders all summer may have already headed south. Now we seem to have a lot of females and/or juveniles tanking up. One female has claimed my cypress vines and our hanging basket, which still boasts many petunia blossoms. She's a feisty one! Here are some pics:

 Nectaring on the cypress vines
 Nomanomanom...

 So beautiful!
 And hungry
 "I like this place!"
"I shall claim it for my very own"
"I thought I saw another hummingbird."
It's on! (those are two hummingbirds...trust me)
Fiercer than eagles!

The last of the summer's Super Moons, this one was brilliant over Ohio!

Your photos are awesome! I live in Louisiana and have had Hummingbird feeders for 20 years but this year has been wild. This week alone I've used 10 pounds of sugar filling & refilling my two feeders twice a day for the hundreds of Hummers we've had. I've never seen this many birds in September. It's amazing to watch. xo

The birdman meets the moonman. I think there's the making of a series of movies here to get folks' minds off of vampires and zombies.

Great photographs. I'm always amazed that they spend so much time fighting when they should be storing up for their migration. No super moon for us...clouds every night.

I've never seen any hummingbirds around our house, but my in-laws used to get them at their house in New York.

Great moon shots! It was cloudy here every single night, so I was out of luck.
